How to save a PDF editing project

Downloading a finished PDF and saving an unfinished project serve different purposes. PDF is usually sent to the recipient; the OPDF project is kept for further work in Indy PDF Studio. Unsaved changes may be lost after closing the page.

Step by step

  1. After more significant edits, use the save project in OPDF format.
  2. Download the project to a place where you can find it later, and choose a meaningful name.
  3. Export the resulting PDF separately for the recipient and open it in a regular PDF viewer.
  4. Before a longer break, verify that the OPDF file is actually in the downloaded files.
  5. When continuing, open the OPDF again in Indy PDF Studio and check the restored document.

Which file to send to a colleague

If your colleague only needs to read the document, a regular PDF is usually sufficient. The OPDF project may contain the original document and unfinished elements. Do not consider it as a cleaned-up copy for public sharing.

How to name versions

A practical name can include date and work phase, for example, draft-2026-10-23-in-progress.opdf. Keep the original document separately. It is useful to save a new version before extensive changes or translation.

File on the device is not a cloud backup

Local processing does not mean automatic backup. If you lose your device or delete downloaded files, the project may not be available. Back up important work files using your usual method.
